Socket weld pipe flange is like a slip on flange,it is used specially for small sizes piping systems.The shape of a socket welding flange is like a slip on flange with a block in the inner bore of the flange which name is socket. And the socket thickness is common same with the pipe thickness.
Initially, a Socket Weld flange was developed for use in small-size high pressure piping. The static strength of a socket weld is equal to Slip On flanges. However, the fatigue strength of an ASME B16.5 Socket Weld Flange is almost 50% greater than a double-welded Slip On flange.
